Comfort in Honesty
You Shouldn't Have to Chase a Contractor
We know what it's like to hire someone for your own house and hear nothing back for a week. Around Merrill and Wausau you're planning against weather that doesn't ask permission — seventy degrees one afternoon, snow by the weekend, a grid that taps out right when you need it most — and the last thing you should have to do is juggle five trades to get one fireplace done right.
It's why Firefly Lodge runs on the same four promises our family company, Merrill Sheet Metal Works, has kept since 1913: answer the phone, show up when we said, do honest work, and leave the house cleaner than we found it. The showroom carries the fireplaces, stoves, and inserts we'd put in our own homes, and one in-house crew handles the whole job — unit, venting, stone, mantel, and the chimney care for every winter after.
So whatever you're staring at — a drafty firebox a gas insert would seal tight, a wood stove that's earned retirement, or the one cold room an electric fireplace could fix — we'd love to help you get it right.

Real Reviews From Wisconsin Homeowners
Wood-stove loyalists, first-time gas buyers, and more than a few neighbors who found us through the family's other company. Read what they say when the job's done.
“We had the pleasure of working with Firefly Lodge to have our free standing fireplace installed. Nick and Brian were the best installers we could ask for. … They walked us through how everything worked and my house was cleaner when they left than before they got there!”
“After being told by a different HVAC company that it would be impossible to convert our traditional wood burning fireplace to gas, we reached out to Merrill Sheet Metal & Firefly Lodge … they did it ahead of schedule!”
“After having the addition to our home completed, we were chomping at the bit to get our new wood stove installed! Our salesman Bill was awesome to work with and the installers Brian, Nick and Justin did amazing work! Their attention to detail is like no other.”
“Super helpful staff went above and beyond to get me some parts I desperately needed after hours! Highly recommend!”
Chimney & Fireplace Care
Don't Wait for the Failed Inspection to Decide for You
Most of the fireplace projects we install start with bad news — a cracked liner, a flagged chimney, a unit that quit in January. Waiting doesn't make the repair cheaper, and it leaves the coldest months to chance. A fall inspection costs a fraction of a mid-winter emergency.
What a Fall Inspection Covers
- Flue and liner — cracks, gaps, and blockages
- Cap, crown, and masonry up top
- Flashing and chase — where water sneaks in
- Creosote level and clearances around the unit
CSIA-certified, photo-documented, and honest — what's fine, what needs attention, and what can wait.
Straight Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a new fireplace or stove cost installed?
It depends on the unit, the venting, and the finish work — which is exactly why every model on this site carries an instant estimate. Answer a few questions about your space and you'll see a real ballpark for the whole installed project, not just the box. Financing through Wells Fargo is available on any of it.
Is there still a federal tax credit for wood stoves?
Not anymore — the federal energy-efficiency credit (25C) that covered qualifying wood and pellet stoves ended December 31, 2025. If a site is still advertising it, that page is out of date. The number that actually matters is the whole installed cost — the instant estimate shows yours in about five minutes, and financing can spread it out.
Should I get gas logs or an insert for my open fireplace?
Honest answer: gas logs are the easy, beautiful upgrade if you love the open-fire look and mostly want ambiance — and we sell plenty. But in this climate an open firebox sends most of its heat up the flue. If you want the fireplace to actually warm the room, an insert seals the opening and multiplies the heat. We'll show you both and tell you plainly which fits how you live.
Why don't you sell ventless (vent-free) fireplaces?
Because ventless units release their combustion byproducts into the room, and we're not comfortable putting that in your house. Every fireplace, stove, and insert we sell vents properly to the outdoors.
Wood, gas, pellet, or electric — how do I choose?
Start with the job. Heat that survives outages: wood first, then gas. Push-button daily convenience: gas. Biomass economy with thermostat comfort: pellet. Flame in a room with no flue: electric. Then come stand in front of your short list burning live at the showroom — ten minutes in front of the real thing beats a week of reading.
