What This Service Actually Involves
Creosote builds quietly — every wood fire leaves a little behind in the flue, and it's the fuel for the chimney fires nobody plans on. A yearly sweep clears it; a proper inspection catches the cracked tile or failing crown while it's still a small fix.
Our inspections are photo-documented and plainly worded: no scare tactics, no invented urgency — just what the camera saw, what it means, and what it costs. If everything's sound, we say so and see you next fall.
- Full flue sweeping with proper containment — no soot in the living room
- Firebox-to-cap inspection, photo-documented
- Cap, crown, flashing, and liner condition report
- Pre-purchase inspections — and a straight answer about anything we find

“After being told by a different HVAC company that it would be impossible to convert our traditional wood burning fireplace to gas, we reached out to Merrill Sheet Metal & Firefly Lodge … they did it ahead of schedule!”

Questions We Hear About Sweeping & Inspection
How often does my chimney need sweeping?
Once a year if you burn regularly, and always before the first fire of fall if the chimney sat all summer. Light burners can sometimes stretch it, but the inspection part is worth doing annually regardless — water and frost damage don't care how often you burn.
How much does a chimney sweep cost?
It depends on the flue and its condition, and we quote it straight when you schedule. What we can promise: no surprise upsells on-site. If the inspection finds something, you'll get photos and options, not pressure.
What happens if you find a problem?
You see exactly what we saw — photos included — with repair options and honest pricing. Small fixes like caps and minor tuck pointing are quick; bigger issues like a failed liner come with choices, including whether an insert makes more sense than a rebuild.
Do you inspect chimneys for home purchases?
Yes — a pre-purchase inspection is one of the smartest line items in a Wisconsin home sale. You'll know what the flue needs before it's your problem.
